CALLA
CALLA is also known as the Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach. CALLA is a learning strategy for English language learners that integrates content curriculum with language skills and explicit instruction using various learning strategies. Some of the goals of CALLA include making sure ELLs:
- Value their own culture and implement it into their new language and culture
- Understand new language skills through cooperative learning and hands on activities
- Are able to work with other students in a social and academic setting successfully
- Eventually become independent learners by evaluating their own work
The CALLA Model: Strategies for ELL Student Success
This is a pdf file created and copyrighted by Chamot and Robbins in 2005. This worksheet was intended for use by the New York City Board of Education to help them understand CALLA and why it should be used in the classroom. Not only does it give us strategies to use, but it also explains the importance of CALLA in the classroom.

Innovative Language Learning LLC. was created as a website in 2005 that offers an "innovative, fun, and easy to use language learning system." They have created a section on the CALLA method and some useful tips and goals of this strategy.
